Developmental Assets For Teens and Other Resources for Professionals, Parents and Teens

The Young Adult Literature Class I'm enrolled in this semester requires students to be knowledgeable about many resources for teens.  Here are some of the most important resources we've learned about so far.

My Young Adult Literature Class is based upon the Search Institutes's 4o Developmental Assets for Adolescents.  Each week, we focus on a particular asset that promotes healthy teen development that help 12-18 year olds "grow up healthy, caring and responsible."  Check out the full list of developmental assets and see ways adults can take action to promote the assets.

Our reading list each week is tied in with each of the assets.  We read current titles including fiction, non-fiction, manga, graphic novels and more.  Want to know what we're reading and have a list of great books to recommend to teens? Here's the class reading list:

YALSA  is the American Library Association's website for Young Adult Library Services.  There are tons of great resources here! There is a vast collection of award winning reading lists, events, professional tools, information on Teen Reading Week and more! Also, the YALSA blog, The Hub, is a great site to find book reviews, essays, movies, podcasts and other great information on Young Adult Literature.

Stay tuned for more!
